In the summer of 2006, Brian Newman, English Content Specialist at Joliet West had a vision to host a charity race. Stemming from a teacher workshop and incorporating the Business and Information Systems Academy theme, Newman mentioned the idea to colleagues Todd Cumming and Missy Stapleton. He wanted teachers and students to come together for a positive impact in the community. On May 5th, 2007, the event was realized with over 350 participants. In 2008, 650 people attended.
